A sliding compound mitre saw adds rails that let the blade travel forward and back, so a 216 or 254 mm saw can cut boards far wider than a fixed chop saw. Compound means the head also tilts for bevels, and a double bevel saw tilts both ways, which saves flipping long skirting and crown pieces. The trade off is depth: sliding saws need space behind them for the rails, unless they use a front glide design. This guide compares corded and cordless sliding saws by blade size, power, bevel range and the cut capacity each listing gives, so you can match the saw to your widest board. Clamp the work, keep hands well clear of the blade path, return the head fully before starting the next cut, and wear eye and ear protection as the manual and HSE guidance advise.
