The DCS782N is a full size 305 mm sliding mitre saw that runs on DeWalt's 18 V XR batteries. It is for carpenters, joiners and second fix trades who need large cutting capacity on sites with no power yet, or who simply want to lose the cable. What sets it apart is capacity: DeWalt lists a 90 x 310 mm crosscut at 90 degrees, comparable with many corded sliders.

Our take

Capacity and accuracy

The listing states a 310 mm crosscut at 90 mm deep and the ability to cut 165 x 19 mm skirting standing upright against the fence. Cutting skirting upright gives cleaner, more accurate mitres on tall profiles. A large dual sliding fence supports long boards at any angle.

DeWalt's XPS Shadowline system projects the blade's shadow onto the wood, so the cut line is visible without calibration. The specs also list a cam lock mitre control and a stainless steel detent plate.

Box contents

Supplied with the saw are a 60 tooth blade, a material clamp, a stabiliser bar and two base extensions. A 60 tooth blade gives fine finish cuts in trim and hardwood. There is no battery or charger. The listing calls it portable and jobsite ready but gives a weight of 34 kg, which in practice is a heavy lift for one person.

Running a big saw on batteries

A 305 mm brushless saw will draw a lot of power, so large XR packs are the sensible match. The listing does not give a cuts per charge figure or say whether the saw needs one or two packs, so check DeWalt's spec sheet before you buy batteries.

The specs list it as compatible with the XR range.

Compared with other sliders

The Metabo KGS 18 LTX BL 305 is the direct cordless rival, listed at 17.4 kg and claiming up to 120 cuts in 100 x 100 mm softwood on a 10 Ah pack. It is far lighter, but its listing does not give crosscut capacity. The corded Metabo KGS 254 M offers 92 mm depth if you have mains power. For lighter trim work, the DeWalt DWS774 is a smaller 216 mm corded slider.

Verdict

Buy the DCS782N if you run DeWalt XR batteries and need a big cordless slider with published capacity and a shadow line for site work. If weight matters more, look at the Metabo KGS 18 LTX BL 305, and if mains power is available, the corded Metabo KGS 254 M is a lighter route to deep cuts.
