Metabo describes the KGS 18 LTX BL 305 as the largest cordless crosscut and mitre saw in its mobile M class. It is aimed at trades and serious woodworkers who want 305 mm capacity without a cable and without the bulk of the heaviest sliders. The point of difference is weight: 17.4 kg in the listing, roughly half the figure given for the DeWalt DCS782N.

Our take

Performance claims from the listing

Metabo says the brushless motor saws with the power of a mains tool. It quotes up to 120 cuts in 100 x 100 mm softwood per charge on a LiHD 10 Ah pack. That is a useful planning figure, as long as you remember it relies on Metabo's largest pack, which is not included.

The Precision Cut Line uses a cleverly placed LED to cast a shadow along the blade, showing the cut position with no adjustment needed. The sliding function gives capacity for wide boards.

Box contents and specs

Included are two table length extensions, a length guide, a material clamp, a 305 x 30 mm 56 tooth wood blade and a blade change tool. No battery or charger. The specs list 3,700 rpm and a mitre range to 47 degrees.

The listing does not state crosscut width or depth. For a saw sold on capacity, that is an odd omission, so check Metabo's data sheet before you buy.

Cordless rivals

The DeWalt DCS782N gives a clear 310 x 90 mm capacity and an XPS shadow line, but it weighs 34 kg in its listing. The Metabo KGS 18 LTX BL 216 is the smaller 216 mm sibling, sold with a 4 Ah pack and charger, which suits trim work better. The Einhell TE-SM 36/210 runs on two 18 V packs and lists 310 x 65 mm.

Who should skip it

Anyone without Metabo or compatible 18 V packs faces a big extra outlay, especially for 10 Ah batteries. If you mostly cut skirting and architrave, a 216 mm saw is lighter and adequate. A smaller pack will still run the saw, but expect far fewer than the quoted 120 cuts per charge.

Verdict

Choose the KGS 18 LTX BL 305 if you want 305 mm cordless capacity in a lighter, more portable saw and already own or will buy large Metabo packs. For confirmed cutting capacity, the DeWalt DCS782N is clearer, and the Metabo KGS 18 LTX BL 216 kit suits trim work.
