Evolution's R255SMS-DB+ is a corded double bevel sliding mitre saw for carpenters, builders and keen DIYers who cut crown moulding, compound angles and mixed materials. The Plus pack adds a wood blade alongside the multi-material blade, plus top and front clamps and a dust bag. What sets it apart in our sliding saw guide is the double bevel: the head tilts 45 degrees both left and right, so you rarely need to flip the workpiece.

In its favour
- Listed cut capacity of 300 by 80 mm handles wide decking boards and stair treads.
- Double bevel to 45 degrees both ways plus 50 degree mitres, so long pieces need no flipping.
- Both a wood blade and a multi-material blade are included, with a UK only 3 year warranty.
Good to know
- At 18.2 kg in the listing it is a heavier saw to move around.
- Slide rails need clear space behind the saw on the bench.
Our take
Capacity and angles
Evolution lists a large 300 x 80 mm cutting capacity, a 300 mm slide, bevels from 0 to 45 degrees in both directions and mitres from 50 degrees left to 50 degrees right. With 80 mm of depth, it will cut 75 mm square posts and most joists in one pass, and the 300 mm width covers wide shelving and decking boards.
Laser guidance shows the cut line, and a trench cut facility lets you cut housings and notches to a set depth.
Two blades in the box
The Plus pack includes a 255 mm wood blade and a 255 mm multi-material TCT blade. Evolution says the multi-material blade cuts wood, steel, aluminium, wood with embedded nails and plastic, and that mild steel cuts produce no heat, no burrs and virtually no sparks. The wood blade gives a cleaner finish on trim and hardwood.
Evolution also notes that a 255 mm diamond blade, sold separately, can be fitted for ceramic tiles and ornamental stone. That makes the saw unusually flexible for renovation work.
Practical details
The motor is rated at 2,000 W with an optimised gearbox. Handles are ambidextrous with a horizontal trigger, carry handles are integrated, and the cable is 3 metres long. The listed weight is 18.2 kg, and the slide rails need space behind the saw on a bench. Evolution's three year warranty applies to UK purchases.
Against other sliders
The single bevel Evolution R255SMS+ shares the multi-material blade and 300 mm slide but tilts one way only and omits the wood blade. The Metabo KGS 254 M lists a deeper 92 mm cut and an LED shadow line but bevels one way. The DeWalt DWS774 is lighter at 12 kg with a 250 x 62 mm capacity for trim. The Metabo KGS 305 M offers a larger 305 mm blade.
Verdict
Buy the R255SMS-DB+ if you want a corded slider that bevels both ways, cuts 300 x 80 mm and handles steel and timber with blades for each. If you only cut timber trim, the DeWalt DWS774 is lighter, and for the deepest timber cuts the Metabo KGS 254 M is the alternative.
