The Ryobi RCS18BL bundle is for DIYers and home renovators who want a full size cordless circular saw and do not own batteries yet. It comes with a 5.0 Ah ONE+ pack and a charger, so it works from the box. What sets it apart in our circular saw guide is that combination of a 184 mm brushless saw with power supplied, at a level aimed at home users rather than full time trades.

Our take

Listed design features

Ryobi describes tool free depth and bevel adjustment, so you can change the cut depth or angle with levers rather than a spanner. A diecast upper guard is meant to survive accidental drops better than plastic. The brushless motor, according to Ryobi, uses patented electronics and intelligent ONE+ battery technology for more power and run time.

The title confirms the 184 mm blade size, but the listing does not give cut depth, speed, weight or whether there is an electric brake.

The battery and ONE+ platform

The RB18L50 5.0 Ah pack has a four stage fuel gauge and a protective housing, and Ryobi states the charger fills it in one hour. The charger also has a maintenance function that trickle charges packs to extend their life. On a circular saw a 5 Ah pack is a sensible size, though one pack means stopping to recharge on long jobs.

Ryobi says ONE+ batteries give access to over 40 garden and power tools, so the same pack can later run a drill, sander or hedge trimmer.

How it stacks up

The Makita DHS660RTJ is the other complete kit in our guide, with two 5 Ah packs, an electric brake and load sensing speed control, but its listing omits blade size. The DeWalt DCS572N shares the 184 mm blade size and lists a brake, but comes bare. For anyone with no batteries, the Ryobi is the simplest starting point.

For deep cuts in thick timber, the Milwaukee M18 CCS55 lists 66 mm at 90 degrees, a figure the Ryobi listing does not provide.

Not the best match for

Trades who saw all day will want two packs and a stated brake. Buyers committed to another battery brand should pick a saw from that range instead.

Verdict

Choose the RCS18BL bundle if you are new to cordless saws, want a 184 mm brushless model with a battery included, and like the idea of one battery across the ONE+ range. Trades should consider the Makita DHS660RTJ kit, and existing DeWalt users the DCS572N.
