The HiKOKI DH45MA is a heavy SDS max combination hammer for installers and groundworkers who drill large holes and break out concrete. It lists 11.3 J of impact energy, a 1,400 W motor and a 45 mm capacity in concrete, the biggest figures in our SDS max guide. Its Low Vibration Handle is aimed at making that power manageable over a working day.

In its favour
- The listing states 11.3 J of impact energy and concrete drilling up to 45 mm.
- Variable speed control and 12 selectable chisel positions are listed.
- Bits and chisels change with one action, and a 3 year manufacturer warranty is stated.
Good to know
- At 9.4 kg it is one of the heaviest tools here and hard work for overhead drilling.
- Only two modes, so there is no rotation only setting for wood or steel.
Our take
Power and capacity
HiKOKI quotes 11.3 J of impact energy and 1,400 W of input power, with concrete drilling up to 45 mm. That is enough for large resin anchors, holding down bolts and service penetrations through slabs and walls. The specs list a no load speed of 380 rpm, which suits large bits that need slow, steady rotation.
Variable drilling speed control lets you change the drilling and hammering speed to suit the job, which helps when starting holes or chiselling softer material.
Two modes and chisel positions
There are two modes: rotary hammer and hammer only. Twelve selectable chisel positions let you lock a chisel at the best angle for chasing, scabbling or breaking edges. SDS max bits and chisels change in one action rather than the usual two, which saves time when swapping between drilling and breaking on the same job.
Low Vibration Handle
The LVH is a damped handle designed for work comfort and grip. With 11.3 J behind each blow, vibration control is not a luxury. An ergonomic soft grip handle is listed for longer comfortable working. Even so, regular breaks and good technique matter on any tool of this size.
Weight and what is in the case
The listed weight is 9.4 kg, one of the heaviest in our guide. That mass helps it sit into the work on floors and low walls but makes overhead drilling hard. In the case you get hammer grease and a side handle. HiKOKI states a 3 year manufacturer warranty.
There is no rotation only mode, so it is not suitable for drilling wood or steel.
Against the other SDS max tools
The HiKOKI DH40MC is lighter with 7.1 J and a 40 mm rating. The Makita HR4013C offers 40 mm with AVT and soft start. The Bosch GBH 6-42 C adds KickBack Control and an app linked interface. The DH45MA is the choice when maximum capacity is the priority.
Verdict
Buy the DH45MA if you regularly drill 40 mm plus holes and break concrete, and want the most impact energy in this guide with a damped handle. If weight is a concern, the HiKOKI DH40MC or Makita HR4013C are easier to handle, and the Bosch GBH 6-42 C suits buyers who want electronic kickback protection.
