HiKOKI's C3606DPA is a cordless 36 V plunge saw for joiners, kitchen fitters and shopfitters who want a deep cut and the freedom to use rails they already own. It is supplied in a Stackable System Case 4 with a blade and dust bag, but no battery. Two things set it apart: a 66 mm maximum depth, which HiKOKI calls the greatest in its class, and compatibility with rails from several brands.

Our take

Depth and angles

A 66 mm cut depth with a 165 mm blade goes deeper than the 55 to 56 mm figures listed for most other plunge saws in our guide. That means you can cut through thick worktops, stacked sheets or 63 mm timber in one pass. The undercut function adjusts from minus 1 to plus 46 degrees, so you can back cut slightly for tight fitting joints.

The listing gives up to 5,200 rpm, a variable speed setting, a 1,000 W rating and a weight of 4.4 kg.

Rail compatibility

HiKOKI says the saw works with its own guide rails and with common rails from Makita, Bosch, Festool, Hilti and others. If your workshop or van already has rails, you can use them, which is a real saving compared with buying a new rail system. No rail is included.

A run out brake stops the blade quickly after you release the trigger, and the base is die cast aluminium for a smooth plunge action.

Battery needs

The saw runs on HiKOKI 36 V MultiVolt batteries, which are not included, and the listing notes that it uses two non standard batteries. Check how many packs the tool actually needs with HiKOKI before ordering, since it affects cost. HiKOKI offers a three year manufacturer warranty.

Against other plunge saws

The Makita DSP600ZJ kit includes two LXT packs, a charger and a rail, a more complete starting point but without a stated depth. The Festool TS 55 R is corded at 55 mm and also sold without a rail. The Einhell TP-PS 18/165 is a budget 18 V option at 56 mm.

Verdict

Buy the C3606DPA if you own or will buy HiKOKI MultiVolt packs and want the deepest cut here with the flexibility to use existing rails from other brands. For a complete kit in the box, the Makita DSP600ZJ is simpler, and corded users may prefer the Festool TS 55 R.
