Our take
Oil Pulse explained
Instead of metal parts hammering each other, an oil pulse unit uses hydraulic fluid to deliver each rotational pulse. HiKOKI says this gives instant and longer sustained torque compared with standard impact drivers, as well as much less noise. For long days of fixing in finished buildings, that helps both you and anyone nearby.
The variable speed trigger gives fine control, important on a driver used for cabinets and fittings.
Size, light and protection
HiKOKI lists a 128 mm head length, which is short enough for most cabinet and stud work. The 3 LED light has adjustable brightness to reduce glare on shiny surfaces. The IP56 rating in the highlights means good protection against dust and strong water jets, useful on outdoor or dusty sites.
The specs list a 1 kg weight and state the tool is made in Germany.
Torque in context
The listed torque is 33 Nm, the lowest among the drivers in our guide. This driver is for general screws, cabinets, plasterboard and light framing. It is not meant for coach screws, long timber screws into hardwood or heavy bolts. HiKOKI's claim of sustained torque may help in use, but on paper it is a light duty tool.
Rivals in the same niche
The DeWalt DCF870N is the main alternative, a hydraulic driver at 101 mm and 56 Nm. It is shorter with more listed torque. For power rather than quiet operation, the Milwaukee M18FID2 at 226 Nm and Bosch GDR 18V-215 at 215 Nm are in a different league.
No battery or charger is included, so this suits existing HiKOKI 18 V owners. The Stackable System Case 2 gives the driver a hard home and links with other HiKOKI system cases on the van shelf, according to the listing's highlights.
Verdict
Pick the WHP18DA if you already run HiKOKI 18 V packs and want a quiet, well sealed driver for indoor fitting work. If you need more torque in a quiet driver, the DeWalt DCF870N lists more, and heavy fixing calls for the Milwaukee M18FID2 or Bosch GDR 18V-215.
