Our take
Torque for heavy fixings
DeWalt lists 1,356 Nm of maximum fastening torque and 1,898 Nm of breakaway torque. The listing names large pipe flanges, grooved couplings, wheel lugs and concrete anchor bolt setting as typical uses. At that level, rusted nuts on trailers, tractors and plant that would need a long breaker bar come off in seconds.
A brushless motor is listed for efficiency and longer tool life, and DeWalt says it allows a much shorter design than older high torque wrenches.
Precision Wrench mode
With this much torque, control matters as much as power. Precision Wrench mode is listed to help prevent overtightening when running nuts on and to stop fasteners spinning off when undoing them. That makes the tool more usable on smaller fixings, although car wheel nuts should still be finished by hand with a torque wrench to the correct setting.
Kit contents
The box includes the DCF900 wrench, two DCB184 5.0 Ah batteries, a DCB115 charger and a TSTAK case. The anvil is a half inch hog ring, so sockets push on and pull off by hand. The LED work light has a delay and adjustable brightness, so you can dim it or switch it off when it causes glare on shiny parts.
Is it more than you need
For home garages that mostly deal with car wheels and suspension bolts, this is far more wrench than required. The DeWalt DCF891N offers a mid torque option in a smaller body, and the HiKOKI WR36DH is lighter still. The DCF900P2T makes sense where large, seized fixings are a regular part of the job.
The listing does not give the weight with a battery fitted, so check this if you work under vehicles for long periods.
Verdict
Buy the DCF900P2T if you regularly face large or seized fixings on plant, agricultural or structural work and want a complete kit ready to go. For car and van work, the DeWalt DCF891N or HiKOKI WR36DH will be lighter and easier to control, and Bosch owners should look at the GDS 18V-1000.
