Our take

Features in the listing

HiKOKI lists a spindle lock for quick, safe blade changes, an electric brake and a two stage safety switch that needs a deliberate action to start the blade. Mitre cuts reach 45 degrees. The spec table gives a 165 mm blade with 24 teeth, 3,800 rpm and a weight of 3.5 kg.

The item highlights describe it as very compact and lightweight with good blade visibility, and the case is stackable with HiKOKI's system cases.

What 57 mm means in practice

A 57 mm depth at 90 degrees cuts through 47 mm timber with room to spare and handles any common sheet material. At 45 degrees the depth will be lower; the listing does not give that number. For heavy joists or sleepers, a 184 or 190 mm saw is the better choice.

The listing does not state whether the motor is brushless, so assume nothing about run time per charge.

Batteries

No pack or charger is included, so this saw makes most sense for people who already own HiKOKI 18 V batteries. If you are new to HiKOKI, adding a battery and charger will make this a more costly route than a kit.

Compared with the DeWalt and Bosch saws

The DeWalt DCS565NT also has a 165 mm blade, with 55 mm depth and AirLock extraction, but its listing does not mention a brake. The Bosch GKS 18V-57 offers the same 57 mm depth plus compatibility with Bosch, Festool, Makita and Mafell rails, a useful extra if you cut a lot of sheet material.

Against the bigger 184 and 190 mm saws, the HiKOKI gives up depth but should be easier to steer one handed along a pencil line on a sheet laid across trestles.

Verdict

Choose the C1806DA if you already own HiKOKI batteries and want a compact saw with a brake and a stated 57 mm cut. If guide rail work matters, the Bosch GKS 18V-57 is the better fit, and DeWalt XR owners have the DCS565NT as a close equivalent.
