The DDF486RTJ is Makita's high torque 18 V drill driver, sold as a kit with two 5.0 Ah batteries, a charger and a Makpac case. It is aimed at carpenters, joiners and installers who bore large holes in timber and drive long fixings. The standout is 130 Nm of torque, the highest figure among the Makita drills in our LXT comparison and on a par with some Fuel class drills.

Our take
Listed features
Makita highlights an ergonomic handle, a bright LED, deep discharge protection that switches the drill off before a pack is fully drained, and electronic overload protection. The spec table gives 130 Nm, 2,100 rpm, two speeds, a 13 mm chuck and a weight of 2.6 kg.
The drill type is given as combination in the spec table, but the title calls it a drill and our guide treats the DDF486 as a drill driver without hammer, so do not rely on it for brick.
What 130 Nm is good for
High torque helps with large spade bits, augers and hole saws in timber, where a weaker drill slows or stalls. It also drives long screws without pilot holes in softer wood. At this output, a jammed bit can twist the drill hard, so a side handle and a firm two handed grip are sensible.
For small screws, use the clutch and the low gear to avoid snapping or over sinking them.
Kit contents
The title confirms two 5.0 Ah batteries, a charger and a Makpac case. Two large packs give long run time, and the Makpac case keeps the kit together. The listing does not say whether the motor is brushless; our guide records it as not stated.
Among the Makita drills
The DDF484RTJ is a brushless drill driver with the same battery kit but much lower torque, 54 to 60 Nm, and a lighter listed 1.8 kg. The DDF485RFJ is the compact brushless option with 3 Ah packs. If you need masonry drilling, the DHP453RFE and DHP483Z are combi drills with hammer modes. Outside Makita, the Milwaukee M18FPD2 lists 135 Nm, but with only one battery in its kit.
For LXT owners, the two 5 Ah packs in this kit also add useful capacity to the rest of the range.
Verdict
Choose the DDF486RTJ if you want maximum torque in a Makita drill driver kit for heavy timber boring and long fixings, with two big batteries included. For lighter, everyday driving, the DDF484RTJ or DDF485RFJ are easier to handle, and masonry work calls for a combi such as the DHP483Z.
