The Makita DHR182Z is a compact SDS plus combination hammer that runs on a single 18 V LXT battery. It pairs a brushless motor with AVT anti-vibration, constant electronics and a motor brake. At a listed 2.1 kg, it suits electricians, alarm installers and fitters who drill lots of small fixings in masonry and want a light tool on the same batteries as their drill and impact driver.

Our take
Brushless and compact
Makita lists a brushless motor for more endurance, a longer service life and a more compact design. The specs give 1,350 rpm and a listed weight of 2.1 kg without battery. A single battery tool of this size is far easier to use overhead than the twin battery DHR280ZJ or a corded SDS plus hammer.
AVT, electronics and brake
Anti-vibration technology is listed, which is unusual on a tool this small and helpful when drilling dozens of holes for cable clips or brackets. Constant electronics keep the speed steady under load. A motor brake stops the bit quickly when you release the trigger, so you can move to the next hole without waiting.
What the listing leaves out
The listing does not give impact energy, concrete capacity or a clear list of modes. The specs mention a 24 mm chuck size, which is not a reliable capacity figure. For anchors above 10 to 12 mm, check Makita's data before relying on this tool. It is best seen as a light fixing drill rather than a heavy SDS hammer.
Body only
Makita states it comes in a box without battery, charger or case. That makes it a good add on for LXT owners, but a poor first buy for someone without Makita packs. A 3.0 Ah or larger battery gives a sensible balance of weight and runtime for this kind of tool.
Choosing a Makita SDS
The DHR280ZJ and DHR263ZJ use two batteries for more power and bigger holes. The corded HR2631FT13 is the mains alternative with a stated 2.4 J and 26 mm. The DHR182Z is the light, single pack choice.
Verdict
The DHR182Z is a good choice for Makita LXT users who drill many small fixings and want a light SDS plus hammer with AVT and a motor brake. For bigger holes, the twin battery DHR280ZJ is the step up, and if you work near mains power, the HR2631FT13 offers more stated capacity in a complete kit.
