The M18FID2 is Milwaukee's Fuel impact driver, sold here with two M18 5.0 Ah batteries. It is for carpenters, decking fitters, roofers and general builders who drive long screws all day. Its standout is the combination of the highest torque figure in our impact driver guide, 226 Nm, with a short 116 mm body that Milwaukee calls the most compact in its class.

Our take

Torque, speed and size

Milwaukee lists 226 Nm of torque and 3,600 rpm from a POWERSTATE brushless motor, and claims fast speed under heavy load. In practice that means long timber screws, coach screws and structural fixings go in without the driver bogging down. A 116 mm length helps between joists and inside cabinets.

The listing does not give a weight for the driver alone; the 4.7 kg figure in the specs must include packaging and both batteries.

What is in the box

The title and bullets confirm two 5.0 Ah batteries with the driver. A charger is not mentioned. If you do not already own an M18 charger, check with the seller or budget for one, since the packs cannot be used without it.

Two large packs mean you can keep driving all day, swapping one onto the charger while the other works.

Handling the power

With 226 Nm on tap, small screws can snap or sink too deep if you squeeze the trigger hard. Use gentle trigger control for small fixings, or pair the driver with a drill driver for delicate work. The listing does not mention drive modes, so trigger control is your main tool.

Against other impact drivers

The Bosch GDR 18V-215 is close on torque at 215 Nm and adds two Auto Driving Modes with automatic slow down and shut off, which help with self tapping screws, but it is sold bare. The DeWalt DCF870N and HiKOKI WHP18DA are quiet hydraulic and oil pulse drivers with far less torque, suited to indoor work where noise matters.

For a matching drill, Milwaukee's M18FPD2 or M18 FPD3-0 complete an M18 pairing. Together with this driver, either drill covers boring, masonry work and heavy screw driving on one battery type.

Verdict

Buy the M18FID2 if you want maximum driving torque in a compact Milwaukee body, with two big batteries included, once you have sorted a charger. The Bosch GDR 18V-215 suits Bosch owners who want auto modes, and anyone working in occupied homes may prefer the quieter DeWalt DCF870N.
