The M18 FPD3-0 is Milwaukee's Fuel percussion drill sold body only. It is for trades and heavy DIY users who already own M18 batteries and need a high torque combi drill for large bits, hole saws and masonry. What sets it apart in our Milwaukee comparison is that it matches the M18FPD2's 135 Nm in a bare tool listed at only 1.45 kg, so existing M18 owners pay for the drill and nothing more.

Our take

Listed performance

Milwaukee states 135 Nm maximum torque and up to 800 W from its Fuel brushless motor, which it says offers longer motor life, more run time and more power than brushed motors. A two speed gearbox reaches 2,000 rpm. Listed capacities are 16 cm in wood, which likely refers to self feed or auger bits, and 1/2 inch in metal.

The drill weighs 1.45 kg without a battery, which Milwaukee describes as compact and lightweight for tight spaces. An LED on the foot of the tool lights the work area.

Handling the torque

At 135 Nm, a jammed bit can wrench the drill hard. Use a side handle when running large bits, and pick the low gear for big holes and driving. The listing does not mention a clutch setting count or whether a side handle comes in the box, so check if you need one.

For small screws and delicate materials, a lighter drill driver may be easier to control.

M18 batteries

The drill works with all Milwaukee M18 lithium ion batteries, sold separately. A 5 Ah pack or larger will make the most of the Fuel motor in heavy boring. The listing's included components field mentions the M18FPD2, an older model name, so confirm you are receiving the FPD3.

Within the Milwaukee range

The M18FPD2 has the same 135 Nm and comes with one 5 Ah pack and a charger, the better choice if you have no batteries. The M18 BPD-402C is the standard 60 Nm M18 combi kit. Pair the FPD3 with the M18FID2 impact driver for heavy screws, or with the M18FH-0 SDS drill for frequent concrete work.

Verdict

Buy the M18 FPD3-0 if you already own M18 batteries and want a high torque Fuel combi drill at a light bare weight. If you need a battery and charger, the M18FPD2 kit is the simpler start, and light home users may find the M18 BPD-402C enough.
