The M18 CCS55 is a cordless circular saw for Milwaukee M18 owners who cut framing timber, joists and decking boards. It comes as a bare tool with no battery or charger. The reason it stands out in our circular saw guide is the depth of cut: a 190 mm blade that gives 66 mm at 90 degrees, one of the deepest figures listed among the cordless saws we compared.

Our take

Cutting capacity in numbers

Milwaukee lists a 190 mm blade, 66 mm maximum depth at 90 degrees and 48 mm at 45 degrees. The spec table gives 5,000 rpm and a 24 tooth blade. A 24 tooth blade cuts quickly across and along the grain, suited to construction timber rather than fine finishing.

In practice, 66 mm means you can cut through 47 mm thick C24 timber in one pass with depth to spare, and bevel cut it at 45 degrees too. Thicker sleepers would need two passes.

Gaps in the listing

The listing says little about the motor type, whether there is an electric brake, or the weight. The 1 kg weight entry is unlikely for a 190 mm saw. Milwaukee's manufacturer warranty is given as two years. If a blade brake or brushless motor matters to you, check the Milwaukee product page.

Bare tool considerations

With no pack included, this saw suits people already invested in M18. A circular saw draws a lot of current, so a 5 Ah or larger M18 pack will give the best run time. Smaller packs will run out quickly on long rip cuts.

The listing does not mention a guide rail fit or a parallel guide in the box, so plan on clamping a straight edge for long rips in sheet material.

Compared with other saws

The DeWalt DCS572N uses a 184 mm blade with a stated brake and brushless motor, also bare. The Makita DHS660RTJ is a full kit with two 5 Ah packs but does not state its blade size. For sheet goods and guide rail work, the Bosch GKS 18V-57-2 GX is the stronger choice, while the Milwaukee is aimed at deep cuts in structural timber.

Verdict

Buy the M18 CCS55 if you already own M18 packs and need a deep cut from a cordless circular saw for framing and decking. If you need a brake and a clearer spec sheet, the DeWalt DCS572N is an alternative, and anyone without batteries should look at the Makita DHS660RTJ kit.
