The AdvancedMulti 18 is Bosch's green DIY multi-tool, sold as a complete kit with a 2.5 Ah battery, a charger, blades, a sanding plate and a carry case. It is for home owners and hobbyists who want to trim door frames, cut out floorboards, sand in corners and remove sealant without buying parts separately. The draw is that it works straight out of the box, unlike most of the bare professional tools in our guide.

Our take

Features Bosch lists

Bosch describes a high performance motor with electronic speed preselection, a 180 degree light band that illuminates the working area, and the AutoClic system for keyless accessory changes in about three seconds. AutoClic uses the Starlock mount, so the wide range of Starlock accessories is available.

The light band is helpful when cutting inside cupboards or under stairs, where shadows hide your line. The listed weight is 1.09 kg.

In the case

The kit includes a PBA 18V 2.5 Ah battery, an AL 1830 CV charger, an ACZ 85 EB segment blade, an AIZ 32 EPC plunge blade, a 93 mm delta sanding plate with a sheet set, a four stage depth stop for segment blades and a carrying case. The depth stop is useful for cutting grout or plaster to a set depth without damaging what lies beneath.

Bosch offers a two year warranty, extendable to three years by registering with MyBosch.

Green versus blue batteries

This tool runs on Bosch's green 18 V Power for All batteries, not the blue Bosch Professional packs. If you already own green Bosch garden or DIY tools, the battery will be shared. If you own or plan to buy blue Professional tools, the GOP 18V-34 is the better fit.

The speed range and oscillation angle are not stated, so comparison on numbers is limited.

How it compares

The Bosch GOP 18V-34 is the professional sibling with a stated 3.4 degree angle, sold solo. The Fein AMM 500 Plus Top and Metabo MT 18 LTX BL QSL are trade tools sold bare. Among the kits, this Bosch and the Fein corded MM 500 Plus Top are the only ones that work without buying anything else, and the Bosch avoids the cable.

Verdict

Choose the AdvancedMulti 18 if you want a complete cordless multi-tool kit for home projects and already use, or are happy with, Bosch's green battery range. Trades and Bosch Professional users should pick the GOP 18V-34, and heavy daily use suits the Fein MM 500 Plus Top.
