The DDF482RFEB is the black edition of Makita's DDF482 drill driver, sold with two 3.0 Ah batteries, a DC18RC charger and a carry case. It is for DIYers and trades who want a straightforward LXT drill driver with a little more torque than the compact brushless models. Its point of difference is the 62 Nm torque figure combined with an all metal planetary gearbox, plus the black finish for those who prefer it.

Our take

What the listing gives

Makita lists a two speed full metal planetary gearbox, 21 torque settings and a bright double LED with an afterglow function. The EPTA weight is 1.8 kg. The spec table adds 62 Nm maximum torque, 1,900 rpm, a 13 mm chuck, a 38 mm wood capacity and 13 mm in metal.

Some fields are clearly wrong, such as 1 W and 1 Nm. The 62 Nm maximum torque is the useful figure.

Box contents and a stock warning

The included components are the drill, a black carry case, two BL1830B 3.0 Ah batteries, a DC18RC charger, a mounting bracket and a double ended bit. The listing notes that an English language manual is not guaranteed, which suggests the stock may come from outside the UK. Check that the charger has a UK plug and ask about warranty cover before buying.

Daily use

At 62 Nm, the DDF482 sits between the compact DDF485 at 50 Nm and the heavy DDF486 at 130 Nm. It drives most screws used in a house, including longer timber screws, and drills holes up to 38 mm in wood. The listing does not say whether the motor is brushless, and there is no hammer mode for brick.

Two 3 Ah packs give reasonable run time without making the drill heavy.

Alternatives in the Makita line

The DDF485RFJ is compact and brushless with the same pack size. The DDF484RTJ adds 5 Ah packs, an electric brake and a brushless motor. The DHP453RFE is the combi kit with 3 Ah packs if you need a hammer mode.

The black finish is the only cosmetic difference highlighted in the title; the listing does not suggest any change in specification from the standard colour.

Verdict

Pick the DDF482RFEB if you want a black LXT drill driver with 62 Nm and two 3 Ah packs, once you have confirmed the plug and warranty. For a UK sourced brushless kit, the DDF485RFJ or DDF484RTJ are safer buys, and the DHP453RFE suits buyers who also drill masonry.
