Our take

Core specifications

The listing gives an 800 W motor, a single impact force of 2.4 J and a speed range of 0 to 1,200 rpm set through the trigger. The optimum drilling range in concrete is 8 to 18 mm, with a maximum of 26 mm. That covers wall plugs, frame fixings and most anchor bolts.

Three uses are listed: drilling, hammer drilling and chiselling, so it can also lift tiles or chase small channels.

What AVT does for you

AVT uses a counterbalance and damped handle to cut the vibration that reaches your hands and arms. On a few holes it makes little difference, but on a day of fixing battens, brackets or cable trays it reduces fatigue and helps you keep the bit straight. Of the 26 mm class Makita models in our guide, this is the only one that lists it.

The kit in the case

Makita lists an SDS plus bit set, depth stop, an SDS plus quick change chuck, a second quick change chuck for round shank bits, a carry case and a side handle. Having both chucks means you can switch to wood or metal bits without an adaptor. The bit set gives you somewhere to start, although you will want larger sizes for anchors.

The listing states a 230 V supply and does not confirm the plug type, so check that it suits a UK socket or site transformer.

Compared with Bosch

The Bosch GBH 2-28 F lists more impact energy at 3.2 J and adds KickBack Control, with a similar two chuck system. The Bosch GBH 2-26 is a simpler 2.7 J tool. The Makita stands out on the anti-vibration system and the included bits, which make it a strong first SDS drill.

Verdict

The HR2631FT13 is a good buy for trades and serious DIYers who want low vibration and a complete kit in one case. If raw hitting power and kickback protection matter more, the Bosch GBH 2-28 F is the stronger tool, and the Makita HR2630T is the plainer option without AVT.
