The Makita HR2630T is a 26 mm class SDS plus hammer that adds a hammer only mode and a quick change chuck to the basic HR2600 design. That makes it more versatile: it drills masonry, chisels tiles and render, and takes round shank bits for wood and steel. It suits builders, fitters and renovators who need one corded tool for several jobs.

In its favour

  • Three modes are listed: rotation only, rotation with hammering and hammering only for chisel work.
  • A one touch sliding chuck and a separate quick change chuck are both part of the kit.
  • The listing states 1 year warranty with a further 2 years when the tool is registered.

Good to know

  • Impact energy is not given in the listing, so it is hard to rank against Bosch on hitting power.
  • The listing mentions no anti-vibration system, unlike the HR2631FT13.

Our take

Three ways to work

Makita lists three modes: rotation only for timber and metal, rotation with hammering for masonry, and hammering only for chisel work. A one touch sliding chuck makes swapping SDS plus bits fast. Variable speed is controlled by the trigger.

The specs list an 800 W motor, 240 V supply, 32 mm capacity in wood and 13 mm in steel. The listed weight is 3 kg.

The T means a second chuck

The T suffix brings a quick change chuck for round shank bits. Swapping the front end lets you drill a clean hole in timber or a radiator bracket into steel without an adaptor. For someone who would otherwise carry a combi drill as well, it saves space in the bag.

The second chuck is also handy for mixing paint or filler with a paddle that has a round shank, as long as you set the tool to rotation only. Keeping the hammer action off protects both the paddle and the gearbox.

Warranty and what is missing

The listing states a 1 year manufacturer warranty, with a further 2 years when you register the tool. In the box you get the carry case, depth stop, quick change chuck and side handle.

Impact energy is not given, and there is no mention of AVT anti-vibration. If you drill for long periods, that may push you toward the HR2631FT13, which lists both a joule figure and AVT.

Where it sits in the range

The HR2600 is the plainer two mode version with no chisel setting. The HR2631FT13 adds AVT and a bit set. The HR2630T is the middle choice. Among Bosch rivals, the GBH 2-26 offers a stated 2.7 J and a chisel mode in a similar price band, so it is worth weighing the two.

For an occasional user, the stated registration warranty is a reasonable reason to pick the Makita over an unbranded alternative.

Verdict

The HR2630T is a sound choice if you want a three mode corded SDS plus hammer with a second chuck for wood and metal. If you drill all day, the HR2631FT13 with AVT is easier on the arms, and if you never chisel, the simpler HR2600 does the drilling for less.
