Our take
Size and power
Bosch lists 30 Nm from a two speed gearbox and a top speed of 1,300 rpm. That is plenty for hinges, curtain poles, flat pack and pilot holes, but not for large spade bits in hardwood. The wood drilling capacity is listed at 10 mm and metal at 7 mm, which tells you the tool is meant for fixings rather than boring big holes.
The 169 mm head length is the key figure. It lets the drill fit between joists, inside kitchen units and into corners where an 18 V drill will not go.
Batteries and protection
Two batteries are included, a 2.0 Ah and a 4.0 Ah, along with a GAL 12V-20 charger. Bosch's Electronic Cell Protection guards packs against overload, overheating and deep discharge. The tool works with all Bosch Professional 12 V and 10.8 V batteries and chargers, so older blue packs will also fit.
The accessory set
The kit includes a 25 piece screwdriver bit set with a magnetic holder, seven wood drill bits from 3 to 10 mm and seven metal drill bits. Everything packs into a bag. For a new homeowner, that means one purchase covers most small jobs around the house without a separate trip for bits.
Who should look elsewhere
If you need to drill brick, this tool has no hammer action. If you want more torque in a compact body, the Milwaukee M12FDDX kit offers four heads and 34 Nm. For heavy timber work, an 18 V tool such as the Bosch GSR 18V-110 C or HiKOKI DS18DC is the right class.
It also lacks a side handle and a metal chuck, which are features you only miss on bigger bits.
Verdict
Buy the GSR 12V-15 if you want a light, compact drill driver with batteries, charger and bits in one kit for home and second fix jobs. If you need to reach into cabinets at angles, the Milwaukee M12FDDX with its heads is more flexible, and for big bits step up to the Bosch GSR 18V-110 C.
