The Makita LH1040/2 is a combination saw that works as a mitre saw and as a small table saw. It is for DIYers, joiners and site workers who need to crosscut and rip but do not have room or budget for two separate machines. That dual role is what sets it apart: it appears in both our mitre saw and table saw guides, with a 260 mm blade on a 240 V, 1,650 W motor.

In its favour
- Works as both a table saw and a mitre saw, according to the listing.
- Electric brake and built-in dust collection are listed.
- Includes a TCT blade, push stick, holder set and triangular rule.
Good to know
- No slide, so cut width is limited compared with sliding saws.
- Bevels to the left only, and cut capacity is not given in the listing.
Our take
Features in the listing
Makita lists double insulation, a built in dust collection system and a head that bevels left and mitres left and right. The spec table adds an electric brake and a weight of 14.3 kg. The box contains a holder set, push stick, socket wrench, TCT saw blade, triangular rule and a bag.
The push stick is important in table saw mode, keeping your hands clear of the blade on narrow rip cuts. The warranty is listed as three years with registration.
Two saws in one
In mitre mode, the head comes down onto the workpiece for crosscuts and angle cuts on skirting, battens and framing. In table mode, the blade projects through a table so you can rip boards along their length. The combination suits small workshops and site vans where space is short.
There is no slide, so crosscut width is limited compared with sliding saws. As a table saw, rip capacity will also be smaller than a dedicated machine.
Missing numbers
The listing does not give the depth of cut, crosscut width or rip capacity. Some spec fields, such as 24 V and 10 teeth, are clearly wrong for a 240 V saw with a TCT blade. Check Makita's data before buying if you need specific capacities.
No stand is included, so you will need a bench or stand to use it at a comfortable height.
Alternatives
The Bosch GTM 12 JL with GTA 2600 stand is another table and mitre combination, sold with a stand. The Evolution R255TBL+ is a dedicated 255 mm table saw with 85 mm depth and a rack and pinion fence. For mitre work only, the DeWalt DWS774 slider gives a 250 mm crosscut.
Verdict
Choose the LH1040/2 if you want one compact corded machine that handles both mitre and basic table saw work, and you have checked its capacities. If you want a stand included, the Bosch GTM 12 JL with GTA 2600 is the direct rival, and dedicated ripping is better done on the Evolution R255TBL+.
